Gelderland joins the ‘New Silk Road’

The first container of goods from Arnhem has recently departed for ‘the new Silk Road’ to Wuhan in China. On board the train include coffee beans from coffee roasting plant Peeze from Arnhem. The beans have been purchased by Wuhan Asia Europe Logistics (WAE Logistics). This company operates the freight train connection between Wuhan and Duisburg, but also buys goods and sells them in Wuhan and central China.

Peeze’s coffee is part of a larger shipment and marks the latest step in the connection of Gelderland on the Silk Road, which, partly thanks to the long-standing sister relationships of Gelderland, Arnhem and Apeldoorn, leads to economic effects.

ARNHEM – Coffee beans from Peeze from Arnhem, sports nutrition from Mojo Nutrition from Apeldoorn and ketchup from Heinz from Elst: a train full of Gelderland goods arrived in China today in Wuhan. Gelders deputy Michiel Scheffer and the Arnhem alderman Ron König were there to receive the train.

The train was driven over the New Silk Road from Europe to China. The arrival of the train is part of the Gelderland trade mission to Wuhan, organized by development company East Netherlands. It works closely with Wuhan Asia Europe Logistics (WAE).

Gelderland strengthens trade relations with Wuhan.

From 20 to 25 November 2017, a trade mission from 17 companies in Gelderland took place to the city of Wuhan in China under the leadership of deputy Michiel Scheffer. The aim of the trip was to strengthen trade relations around the New Silk Road from China to Europe with Wuhan as the starting point.

The first results are:

Logistics entrepreneur We Force from Heteren signed a contract with WAE Logistics (the operator of the New Silk Road) to support European trade and to provide aftersale service for electronic products from China.

Coffee roaster Peeze from Arnhem has made agreements about the opening of a Flag Ship Store (coffee experience) in Wuhan next year. In addition, the two largest supermarket chains in Wuhan have agreed to put Peeze products on the shelves and Peeze will supply coffee to a hotel and restaurant chain in Wuhan.
